The F-14 Tomcat was a carrier-based two-seat supersonic fighter aircraft with aerodynamic design and variable-geometry wings. The F-14 first flew in December 1970, and entered service with the U.S. Navy in 1974. The U.S. Navy operated 338 F-14s as their primary air superiority fighter, fleet defense interceptor and tactical recon platform. The F-14 was retired from the U.S. Navy's active fleet on 22 September 2006.
