The F4U was a carrier-capable fighter developed by Chance Vought. It was operated by the U.S. Navy and U.S. Marine Corps from World War II to the Korean War. It features a powerful engine, a large propeller and a reverse gull wing that were not found in previous carrier-capable fighter aircraft. The F4U-1A was an improved model that changed the earlier type of canopy with a frame to a semi-water drop type; the pilot seat position was also raised to improve visibility.
